Did you know 50% of each sale at the InsideSMA store is donated to SMA Charities?

25% is  donated to the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation. The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for SMA and through it's many fundraising campaigns it is a charity that makes a difference. The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation also supports Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (www.FSMA.org) which is SMA's largest and charity organization that is funding most of the SMA cure research today.

25% will be donated to Brian Kaspar at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus, OH. Dr. Kaspar heads the research for the Gene therapy program which we hope will be the first treatment for SMA.

Welcome to InsideSMA where we are dedicated to providing knowledge and products for SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). Our goal at InsideSMA is to provide you with the tools you need to support a child with SMA.  We accomplish this by covering many of the most important, life-impacting topics that SMA parents face, such as:  Emergency Care, Mucus Plugs, Maintaining Movement, Preventing Contractures, Keeping your Child Healthy, and so many more.  Our articles are created by SMA parents and written specifically for SMA parents.  Our articles are written with a "hands-on" approach to caring for your SMA child even in the event of an emergency, so this may not be for all people.

In addition to the articles, we also offer specific SMA-related products.  The Arm Slings. which are custom-made by us. will enable your child to move their arms in ways you never thought possible.  The slings are a very important tool not only for playtime, but also in fine motor skill development.  Arm slings are something you simply cannot live without.  The BiPAP Tube Covers are a new product, but one that has been available in the CPAP market for quite some time.  The Tube Covers or "Wraps" keep the BiPAP hose warmer when used in conjunction with a heated humidifier.  Keeping the tube warm helps to reduce the condensation and adds some comfort in an aesthetically pleasing, non-medical way.  We will be adding new colors and fabrics to the wraps and slings so check back often as our stock changes.

At InsideSMA your opinion is always valued; we welcome all of your comments and feedback.  Each article has a comment section below that we encourage you to fill out.  In addition, we offer a Contact Us link where you can recommend a particular article you'd like to see posted on this site.

We'd like to introduce you to a very handy piece of equipment to own. It's make by CTEK and it's called the Comfort Indicator. It will display the status of your battery in real-time and let you know how much power your have left in your battery. It's truly a must-have device and at only about $12 it's very affordable too.

We have started a new wave of testing Pure Sine Wave inverters.  This class of inverters will be the smaller 300-600 Watt inverters designed to fit comfortably on a stroller with a battery.  Our first until should arrive in two weeks so we can begin the grueling test process.  This process includes working in various temperatures and durations typical families will require.

The first unit we will test is the SK350-112 350 from Samlex America.  (Note the unit carries the brand "Cotek").  This unit is likely the highest grade inverter we'll see, since it conforms to UL (Underwriters Laboratories) specifications.  It's only a 350 Watt but we feel confident it will out perform most competitors.  The unit can take an initial surge up to 700 Watts so it should be well equipped to handle the Cough Assist™ Machine startup. The unit itself it fairly small measuring 7.3in x 5.8in x 2.36in (L x W x H).  It's a pricey unit though at a retail price of $175 although this comes with cables so you save that expense.  Still, we'll see what we can about that price though.

The other unit we will begin testing is the Pro Watt 600 be Xantrex.  This is a larger unit measuring 3.5in x 8.7in x 12.2in (L x W x H) although it is a 600 Watt.  It does boast a USB port so you can charge your iPhone on the go.  This unit retails for around $160 through Amazon and does not come with cables.
